School Fight Raises Concerns

Already this school year, several incidents of violence have been reported in Pitt County Schools. Both the sheriff's department and a school spokesperson say they're doing everything they can to prevent fighting on school grounds. But some parents say they're concerned nevertheless.

A recent fight between a Farmville Middle School student and Farmville Central High School student ended with one of them going to the hospital. Pitt County School public information director Deborah Long says school resource officers are available throughout the school system.

School officials say another preventative step has been in place for years, releasing younger students earlier than high school students, to help prevent encounters between the different grades.
