Health Education Summit

Healthy minds and healthy bodies equal academic success. That was theme at Pitt County's annual Education Summit Wednesday.

Leaders in Pitt County education gathered with teachers, business leaders, and health officials from all over Eastern Carolina to discuss the connection between students' mental and physical health and academic performance. School officials say, while Eastern North Carolina is improving on education, the health of many students continues to decline.

In Pitt County, health officials say one in three students is overweight or at risk of becoming overweight.
