Ski Class for the Disabled in Eastern Carolina

Whichards Beach proved to be the gaining ground for handicapped people in the east as they strapped up their sporting gear and rallied for the Annual Fall Festival and water-ski clinic in Beaufort County Saturday.

One of the nationally recognized skiers and current world record holder for paraplegic slalom- joined the bunch Saturday. Joe Ray was on hand along with dozens of East Carolina University Adapted Sports Program students, and many disabled residents, who all showed how anyone can participate in any kind of sport. As a 2 time world recorder holder, Ray says, the coming together of handicapped sports enthusiast and new-age equipment for people with any disability to use, is truly a learning experience for all who participate and watch.

Aside from water-skiing the event provided kayaking, fishing, kiting, swimming, land games, and boating to the region's disabled population, as well as to their family and friends.
