The Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wreck in Wilson County. Troopers say they were called to the wreck near Saratoga in Wilson County at 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
Trooper Marcus Comstock says one man died in the single-car wreck on Page St. just outside of Saratoga. It's near the intersection of Smokehouse Rd. and Piney Grove Rd.
Trooper Comstock says there were three men in the car that crashed into a tree after driving off the road to the left and going through a bean field. The car caught fire, and Comstock says it was the fire that killed the man sitting in the back seat. The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
The names of the men in the car have not been released.
Trooper Comstock says all the men in the car had been drinking, and he says the accident may be the result of alcohol and speed.
