Remembering the Fury of Floyd and Isabel

This week marks the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Floyd and the 1st anniversary of Hurricane Isabel.

Hurricane Floyd ravaged Eastern North Carolina. In many communities, massive flooding from overflowing rivers and heavy rains spelled disaster. One area hit particularly hard was Edgecombe County, where the town of Princeville was completely flooded out when the Tar River rose up to thirty feet. Other counties faced its own challenges, some receiving almost 26 inches of rain.

One year ago Hurricane Isabel ripped through the Outer Banks, leaving almost $600 million in damages and destroyed miles of beaches.
