Governor Mike Easley made his way to Washington Thursday for a huge announcement. Easley met with community leaders at the city of Washington's Civic Center to announce construction on the Highway 17 bypass, which will begin in the Spring of 2007.
The bypass will stretch from South of Price Road to South of Hamilton Beach Road in Beaufort County. Land acquisitions are already underway across the county. Although Easley's announcement was met with applause, some question if the bypass will really help the largest city in the county by re-routing traffic.
