It's harvest time for Eastern Carolina peanut farmers, but there is one big concern on the minds of these farmers - rain, rain, and more rain.

Donald Anderson of Tarboro is a peanut farmer who says he doesn't want to see any more rain while he's trying to harvest his peanuts. Excess rain is responsible for various diseases that are known to kill peanut plants.

Edgecombe County Extension Director James Pierce says although additional rain does pose a threat, most peanut farmers are producing their best peanut crops this year. Peanuts are the third largest cash crop in Edgecombe County and the fourth largest peanut producing county in North Carolina.
