After the resignation of a Beaufort County commissioner back in August, local leaders still haven't filled the vacant seat. Former commissioner Carol Cochran relocated August 2 of this year, leaving the commissioners in a dilemma. Now the Executive Committee of the Republican party, who is elected to nominate two or more names for the seat, is responsible for breaking a deadlock if one occurs and it has. Commissioners are undecided 3-to-3. The seat may not end up being filled until the special election in November.
