The Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate in North Carolina hasn't been invited to two television debates because event organizers say his poll numbers are too low.
North Carolina Association of Broadcasters President Tim Morrisey said Friday that Libertarian Michael Beitler had not been invited to the October 11 and October 21 debates because surveys the group has reviewed fail to show him with at least 10 percent support. Morrisey said the threshold has been used before to determine invitees.
Republican incumbent Richard Burr and Democrat Elaine Marshall were invited and have agreed to participate.
All three candidates are slated to participate in a TV debate October 13, sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
PREVIOUS STORY:
The North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Educational Foundation announced Thursday debates will occur at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 and Oct. 21 at the University of North Carolina Television studios in Research Triangle Park. The debates will air on other TV stations and on radio.
Republican incumbent Richard Burr and Democrat Elaine Marshall have agreed to participate. It wasn't clear if Libertarian candidate Michael Beitler had been invited. A foundation official didn't immediately return a phone call.
The League of Women Voters of North Carolina said Thursday all three candidates have accepted an invitation to a debate at 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at the WNCN-TV studios in Raleigh.

I just want someone who is concerned with doing the right thing, and now with winning the next election. How refreshing would it be to have politicians who are only interested in being in office for ONE term? Get in there, get the job done, get out and let the new blood take over before you get too chummy with the lobbyists. That way you don't have to worry about them just trying to appease a few of their buddies.
I agree with Justice and Robert. Why can't we hear what all of the candidates have to say? What are they afraid of? These debates are too political. In my opinion, the media is owned by big business and big business runs our government.
They all suck!!!! on Sep 10, 2010 at 11:40 PM, wow, sounds like another Obama voter just posted. And what an intelligent post it is! Lacks substance, no point, no direction or wisdom. Yep, an Obama voter. Now, isn't that special......
