An investigation on the East Carolina University campus has students asking questions about their safety.
It could be a racial incident or nothing at all, but officials say they are not taking it lightly.
We're told a resident found what looked like a noose hanging from a light fixture in the basement of Belk Residence Hall on September 23rd.
Officials say it was removed and the resident assistant reported it to administrators. This happened just three days after supporters of the Jena Six rallied on campus.
Wednesday night, ECU students wanted answers about this suspected incident and voiced their concerns at the black student union's regular meeting, to see if this could be a copycat incident spurred by the Jena Six controversy.
The interim provost for student affairs at ECU says there is surveillance video inside the Belk Hall basement, which is being reviewed.
The ECU Police are leading the investigation, which should wrap up later this week.
