An unidentified woman has died in a fire at an apartment complex in Carrboro.
Authorities are awaiting confirmation from the state Medical
Examiner's office before releasing her name. Capt. Carl Freeman of the Carrboro Fire Department says the woman was found in her bed, and he says it's likely she died of smoke inhalation before the fire destroyed her apartment.
Freeman says two other women broke their ankles when they jumped from their second-story window at the back of the building to escape the early morning blaze.
They were taken to UNC Hospitals for treatment.
Freeman says while there were other large apartment buildings across the street and near the fire scene, no one noticed the fire until it was already burning throughout the building.
