After more than ten years, The Turnage Theater is getting ready for opening night.

The stage in downtown Washington is complete and the seats are in place, and soon spectators will fill the theater for the first time since its closing in 1978. With commitments from citizens of the Turnage Theater Foundation, more than a million dollars was raised for the restoration.

Organizers say they hope to bring a variety of theatrical and musical performances to Beaufort County that can compare to bigger cities across the nation.

Currently The Turnage Theater can seat 412 people and organizers say they hope to fill every seat for the opening gala on November 3rd.
