A Browns Summit man who authorities say abandoned more than 40 chickens earlier this month is now facing 46 counts of cruelty to animals.

A county inspector found several chickens and five cockatiels dead. Many were emaciated, and some had wounds from being pecked.
The animals have been housed since at the Guilford County Animal Shelter. Sixteen warrants have been issued against Darryl Keith Holt charging him with felony cruelty to animals.
Another 29 warrants charge him with misdemeanor cruelty to animals. One warrant charges him with feloniously allowing property under his ownership and control to be used for cockfighting.
