Beaufort County schools now say five students have come down with an antibiotic resistant staph infection, also known as MRSA.
Doctors have cleared two of the students to return to school and sports.
Four of the cases are students from Northside High School. One of them is from John Small School, which houses 4th and 5th graders.
Officials say schools with cases are continuing to clean and sanitize as advised by the health department. It takes direct contact - skin to skin - for transmission of this infection.

From what my child came home and told me on Friday Sept. 28,2007, the students at John Small School are sanitizing their own books and desks with Clorox wipes. I think this is morally wrong. The school(s) should be closed to students and then it should be sanitized. At what risk are our children at? It seems more children are being put at risk of MRSA than what is really being told! As a parent I WANT detailed answers to what is going on!

I do not believe that the schools are doing enough to keep the spread of MRSA down, there are a lot more cases than is known, and very little being done to make the schools a safe place for our children. I know, my 10 year old grandchild had to go to the emergency room tonight, We need some attention brought to this matter, more needs to be be known about what is going on to prevent this problem with MRSA, and what schools are involved as well as what is being done to prevent. What is it going to take ?, a law suit to get the schools cleaned up? As a grandmother, I'm totally offended at the way this is being handled. If something is not soon done , I will personaly be sticking my nose right out to get answers, no matter how far I have to take it. Something needs to be done to protect our children! And we the tax payers have the right to be informed of any and all information on the schools and the as well as be informed of the procedures that are being done to handle this !

Thanks WITN, I checked with Washington Daily News and evidently they only went off of the press release and today they are saying they can't get any answers from the school board. I actually spoke with a principal who confirmed it for me. Thanks.
