Fish Turning Up Dead

Fish are turning up dead along one section of the Neuse River and river officials say it may be a sign of what's to come.

Neuse River Keeper Larry Baldwin says since Monday close to 1,000 Menhaden type fish have been found dead along a section of the river in New Bern. Baldwin says each dead fish had large open sores on its body.

Baldwin says these sores are evidence the fish are suffering from a type of bacteria. He believes the bacteria is a result of pollution from things like hog farms, golf courses and parking lots.

State environmental officials say they are investigating but do not yet have a cause.
