About a thousand homes and businesses remain without power after a substation lost power in Hyde County.

Tideland EMC says around 11:25 a.m. its Engelhard substation lost incoming power. Crews have been able to isolate the damage to an eight mile stretch of remote terrain between Carter Canal and Rock Road.

Tideland says a large tree fell, damaging a line. The utility hopes to have all power restored by 6:00 p.m.
