Police Bust Local Business For Illegal Gambling

A week after a local district attorney said he would begin cracking down on illegal gaming, police have followed up.

Jacksonville Police said on Saturday night, they checked in on a local business that had spurred a lot of complaints about illegal gambling.

Investigators said they found four gaming machines and cash at the Cardinal Lounge, located at 1832 Gum Branch Road.

42-year-old Kimberly Reust was cited for possession of gambling machines.

Early in April, District Attorney Ernie Lee met with local law enforcement encouraging them to pursue illegal gambling establishments in compliance with the law.

Cumberland and Wake counties launched a crackdown of the businesses after the North Carolina Supreme Court upheld the 2010 law banning sweepstakes games late last year.
