A Pitt County high school student is one of the few to receive the National Merit Scholarship.
J.H. Rose senior Jordan Frazier is the only student in Pitt County, and one of just 68 in the state, to earn the $2,500 scholarship.
More than 15,000 students applied for the scholarship, and only 2,500 nationwide are selected.
The scholarship is given to those who have a strong combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Frazier's probable career field is biomedical engineering.
