Fayetteville Police Chief Accidentally Shoots Self

Fayetteville's police chief is back on the job after accidentally shooting herself in the hand.

WTVD-TV reported Friday that Fayetteville Police Department Interim Chief Katherine Bryant was wounded earlier this week.

Details surrounding the incident have not been released, but officials said the accident did not happen with her police issued weapon. No one else was hurt.

Bryant was out of the office while she received medical attention.

Bryant was appointed interim police chief in June after then-police chief Tom Bergamine announced his retirement. She has served with the Fayetteville Police Department for more than 25 years.

She will remain interim chief until a permanent chief is hired.
