A company called "Best Doctors" polls physicians. Those physicians are asked which doctors they would choose for themselves or a family member. According to Best Doctors, the list for North Carolina includes less than 5 percent of our state's 29,000 licensed physicians.

The best doctors are generally not even knwon to the public. They quietly do their job and do not expect anything in return except for the satisfaction of knowing that they helped someone. i know of some of the doctors on your list that if I were the last patient on earth; would rather die thatn be seen by some of these jokers.

I have to say that all of the doctors and midwives with Greenville OB/GYN should have been on that list. They are all wonderful, caring and very knowledgable. I received excellent care and would recommend them to all. They are second to none.

Hats off to the ones on the list, maybe Williamston just wasn't on the poll at all, however my hat is off to Todd Tanner General Surgery,Dr. O'Neal, Dr. Neilson both OBGYN. These Dr's provide great care to all the patients they have and I would trust them with my life. They are outstanding and very down to earth. They use there ability's very well and always think of their patient's first. Great Job guys you are all a wonderful team in my book. If you are looking for someone who cares about you then you need to look no further than these doc's.

We have great doctors in the Belhaven area that has saved many lives. Dr. Charles Boyette,Dr. Mark Beamer,Dr. Gregg Jones,Dr Mark Worthen,Dr. Roy Genz hats off to them they have been their in the blood and guts daily. They are real Drs., Hyde County appreciates you.

I think one of the best pulmonary Dr's is Dr. Robert Dietrich in Physcians East in Greenville and he should have made the list.

Dr Sonny Larabee, in Ahoskie, is an excellent Orthopedic Surgeon. Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie,is where Dr. Larabee does surgery. RCH has the lowest rate of post surgery staph infection of any of the UHS hospitals.

To Here in New Bern...Dr. Vandersea is an excellent ortho surgeon. Dr. Angela Park, of New Bern Heart Center, is great for Atrial Fibrilation. Dr Rad Moeller, ECIM, for Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Drs. Wendy Moeller and Tourigny, ECIM, are excellent gastro doctors. The entire staff at the New Bern Heart Center is outstanding. The amount of money MEDICARE pays, I'm surprised any doctor wants to see the elderly. Be thankful.

Congratulations to those physicians and surgeons who made the list!! There are plenty of great doctors that didn't make the list. Just like in any profession, there are excellent people that do an extraordinary job and don't get public recognition. Make sure that you tell those in your life how much you appreciate the good works that they do. That means more than having your name on a list.

I noticed there isn't any good ones in New Bern Doctors. I've found one Orthopedic surgen. The rest are workman comp. butchers paid by Cherry Point

To Christie your right Dr. Knuckles delivered my baby and she was awesome. I'd recommend her as well. To OMG, you might not think Dr. Naziri is "all" that and that's your opinion, but when he has completed the needed surgeries with as least invasion as possible and ensure you do not hurt afterwards then he's alright with me. I've talked to him on the occasions where we've had to see him and he's very caring and treats you with compassion. He has never acted as if people were beneath him and once when we talked bout why he went into the Gastro Surgeon line of work he said that he originally started off as a brain surgeon but when people left the hospital in almost the same way they came in (in most cases) he felt he wasn't helping people. This field allows him to give hope and help to people who need assistance and when he's done they can in almost all cases be well and live on. He loves that he can help people get well. I think that we need MORE doctor's with that point of view.

I am a health care professional and have a chronic GI problem that was misdiagnosed by 2 previous GI MDs that are still practicing in Gville. The 3rd one who made a tremendous difference in my life is Dr. Charles Barrier. He is my hero. Dr. William Chapman performed the surgery that Dr. Barrier said I required. They are excellent physicians if you ever have GI problems.

although these are fantastic doctors, there are tons more out there, that have been in practice for a long time. they may not be affiliated with ecu brody school of medicine, or up there with Dr. Chitwood, but we have too many to list!! thanks for all of your care...

the following Dr.'s should have been on the list: W.H. Taft III, M.D-OB-Gyn, Greenville, J. Grant-Pediatric, Rocky Mount and F. Cook, Endocrinology, Greenville. They are the best and i have and will continue recommending them to other people.

If you want to know who are the best doctors poll the nurses for the real deal...It is So true about there being good doctors in other places. Many of those doctors are in it to help people and not willing to play the political games of ECU and PCMH so they go to remote areas where there is a large need to practice and help people. Remember when it comes to health care bigger is not always better. Some things the hospital here does number 1: NICU, Cardiothoracic, Trauma services, but look at the state of general medicine. Consider the primary care access issues in Greenville whether no appt availability, no insurance, wrong kind of insurance, discrimination based on diagnosis such as someone indicated earlier (chronic pain) and lack of continuity of care (different doctor every time seen). Someone needs to look into the those issues in Pitt County!

I was shocked to not see Dr. Naziri on the list. He preformed three different needed surgeries for my husband and I have to say that he is the best gastro surgeon ever!!! He always took excellent care of my husband and his nursing staff is top notch.

I guess all doctors have a large number of patients that are happy with them and several patients that may hate them. You will never find a doctor that someone does not have a negative thing to say about them. In the other comments below, there are doctors that people say are so wonderful, but I can tell you some stories about a few of them that aren't so wonderful. All I suggest is that you find a doctor you like and stick with them. No poll will be able to tell you who the best doctor is. Only you can decide that for yourself. NUFF SAID!!

Most of us readers see that the list mostly pertains to doctors of ECU School of Medicine (or Brody). I personally don't see that these doctors are the only best doctors. The evaluators were probably from the ECU School Of Medicine.

I had surgeries by Drs.Doug Jones,Naziri, Albernaz and the results were outstanding. Dr.Drake,ECU endocrinology is outstanding. New Bern also has outstanding physicians. I hear DUKE ,but I can name a few people who wouldn't go there again. There are some conditions that just can't be fixed. Remember, your here for a good time not a long time.

After being told for 4 yrs that my stomach problems were here to stay and seen several drs on that so called list i went to DUKE and low and behold the problem was fixed so i have no faith in any dr or the hospitals in eastern nc pmch is a joke. So i tell everyone to go to DUKE if you want a good dr

What a bias Poll! Why poll physicians? Have these physcians had a direct patient-physician relationship with the doctors that they say are the best! Let me mention a few great doctors that were not mentioned...Dr. Diane Semer from Physician's East Oncology and Hematology, Dr. Frank Sheldon from Washington who has been dedicated for more years than some of these doctors have even been alive and Dr. Edward Birdsong who is a great Orthopedic Surgeon in Washington! Orthopedics did not even make the poll and I know there are some fine surgeons in both Greenville and Washington!

I guess it all comes down to if you don't practice at PCMH you aren't considered a good doctor. Just b/c ECU is a teaching school doesn't make them any better than the rest. There are a lot of doctors at Pitt and ECU I wouldn't send the devil to for treatment.

You know... this is sad. For the most part, most of the doctors I've seen are outstanding. Dr. Wade Naziri changed my life. Dr. Jennifer Furguson devilered my little girl and Dr. Naziri recomended Dr. Mark Cervi to me because he would "recommend him to family members." This story looks a little one sided to me. What about docotrs who choose to practice in rural NC? Who's to say that they aren't fantastic doctors, they just don't have as big an "audience" as others. I think the "best doctors" are not necessarily those who are thought well of by their peers because of the circles they travel in... but the ones who are well respected by the patients they see because they make a real difference.

Dr Frazier at Heart Rhythm Associates is my hero, and I can't believe he's not included. I agree that it's heavy on the med school list, and these are probably the researchers who are experts in their field. But someone who deals with real patients, day in and day out, sometimes has more going for him/her.

i disagree with that poll b/c the only doctors listed work at the shop hospital.Yes you run your school of medicene like a shop n stop with young attendings making diagnoses for things they have no clue about.Another on your list was a former doctor of my child and he sent me rx's through the mail so i stopped seeing him.I would like to say greenville womens clinic Dr Brown (not sure if he's still around) should be on that list he was with me through two difficult pregnancies and never waived on what should be done and would have come to my aid at any hr of the night if needed.Your list is bogus at best it was probably done on at the school of medicene to promote the hospital and also greenville pediatrics so where are they on that list they have some fine pediactric doctors Dr Bramley and Taylor are the greatest and being a mother if i wanted my child to be seen by a student doctor i would diagnose them myself so ECU should be off the list for the peds mention.

i agree someone should ask the patients in the community. i would never recommend ecu internal medicine. they are more worried about whether you take pain pills than your blood pressure or when your last mammogram was. i hurt my back 6 months ago and nursed it myself. when my blue cross insurance kicked in i finally decided to try to see a doctor to find out what was wrong. i was not allowed to schedule an appointment. they told me i had chronic pain and they were not taking chronic pain patients. i don't nor have ever abused drugs. glad to see they did not make the cut with such poor listening skills. dr. marcuard is a good doctor. dr. jennifer ferguson is a great OB-GYN.

If you read the article closely, it says that they polled physicians and asked them who would they see themselves and send their families to. The question we should be asking is what doctors did they poll. Seems to me that they must have polled all of ECU Brody School of Medicine seeing as though they are the only ones that were picked. I think that this article wasn't even worth mentioning. Lets do a real poll, ASK THE PATIENTS IN THE COMMUNITY.

Not only are most of the docs on the list from Greenville, most are from ECU. That is crap- I would love to research the research b/c there are may Drs. in Greenville (and outlying areas) who would top some of these guys, and no use in trying to see them 'cause you'll end up being seen by a resident at Brody.

We have too many fine doctors to make a contest out of who is the "best doctor." Most are confident, dedicated specialists from family practice to oncology. There are always a few ringers, but they eventially get weeded out by lack of performance and dedication. Last year, PCMH did more mitral valve heart robotic heart surgeries (700) than any other medical facility in the WORLD. That takes real talent - talent that speaks well of many others in the medical profession who don't need to be weeded out by some stupid poll.

This company polls physicians, apparently asking them what MD they would go to. I agree with Michelle, there are wonderful doc's in the outlying areas not included on this lists POPULARITY CONTEST. (and I am a Dr. Carl T. Dover fan as well...) People should select an MD, and develop a rapport with them. If the "fit" doesn't feel right, move on. Oh, and one must visit them on a regular basis & follow the advise given. One can always, & should in many cases, get a 2nd opinion.

Then there are the physicians in Belhaven that take care of patients from all surrounding counties. Each of these providers take care of 50-60 people a day with minimum staffing. I believe they are to be commended on the excellent care they provide to all thier patients. They work thier offices and run back and forth covering our emergency department during the day while juggling scheduled patients and walk-ins. Thank you Dr. Beamer, Dr. Jones, Dr. Boyette, Dr. Nelson, Nanci Ahearn FNP and Helene OnealFNP. You guys Rock!!!!!

Why are the majority of the doctors listed from the Brody School of Medicine. There are other wonderful doctors that practice medicine outside of ECU. What about Greenville OB/GYN doctors? They are the best in the area. What about a poll from the general public about which doctors they would choose?

I've noticed that 99% of the doctors are from Greenville. Why? There are doctors in other towns that are excellent, for example Dr. Carl Dover in Williamston. I think he's the best pediatrician around. I guess that since he doesn't have his practice in Greenville he wasn't included. It's a shame.
