Sewage Spill: 200,000 Gallons Of Untreated Wastewater
An estimated 200,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into a ditch leading to the Ahoskie Creek in the Chowan River Basin in Hertford County Wednesday.

Ahoskie is a welfare town, nothing good has ever come out of there, and it will not change.

Sounds like somebody needs to update their sewage system. Oh wait, they are FINALLY getting around to that. Current town manager has been proactive about making that happen. It has been LONG over due...

To Sewer rat-what if 200,000 was an underestimate and it as really 500,000 gallons. Get with it man, that amount of sewage in a river system that people fish from is quite a bit. If you got a bill for 200,000 gallons of water wasted through your toilet you wouldn't care, would you?

sewage happens!!! 200,000 gallons really isn't that much....but I would bet that the 200,000 gallon estimate was quite a bit LOW!!!

200,000 gallons of raw sewage and the town doesn't recognize it for 12 hours? Where are their checks, systems, alarms, etc to alert them of this occurring? Obviously someone is asleep at the wheel and it all goes back to the town manager. This is the same town that recently doubled their water usage rates and has caused much controversy with local small businesses. The other writer was correct...if this were a hog waste spill the local and state authorities would be all over them. This is not the first time this has occurred in Ahoskie. They had a similar, but not as large spill, back in 2001 following Tropical Storm Allison. Apparently they did not learn their lesson then or now. Guess if you fine them $$$$ they may get the hint.

i want to see how much fuss the riverkeepers and media raise about this like they would if a hog farm spilled 200 gallons.

Do not really understand how that works but, If 200,000 gallons spilled into a ditch, it does not sound like something was stopped up. Sounds like something was left OPEN !!!!!!! (FOR 12 HOURS?????)Where were the workers that check on these things???
