New Plastic Recycling Law
North Carolina residents need to be careful about what they put in their trash cans starting today. State law says plastic bottles need to be recycled as they are officially banned from landfills

A new law taking effect October 1st bans plastic bottles from landfills as a way to encourage recycling and reduce the amount of trash in the ground.
Chris Frazier with the Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance says state regulators won't rummage through people's trash. Some local government sanitation departments have said though they won't pick up trash that contains the plastic bottles until they are separated.
State officials say the new law is not about penalizing people who don't recycle plastic bottles, but say it's time to keep things that can be recycled out of landfills.
Pitt county's recycling coordinator says they can recycle plastic with the numbers one and two on the bottom.

What kind of law is this??? They aren't going to check, and if they catch you somehow there is no penalty. Which one of our incompetent legislator's needed to get a bill passed with his name on it, came up with this. Now they will all go back and tell the voter's what environmentalist they are. I have always recycled, I agree with doing it, but what does this law actually do???
Honestly, it's really easy to recycle in Greenville. You don't have to use a certain bin, use whatever you want, as long as it's not over 32 gallons and has a lid. Get a recycle sticker from the Public Works dept on Beatty St. You don't have to sort it, as long as the plastic is a 1 or 2. Go to the City of Greenville website, then the Public Works tab, and then Recycling for all the information. I only wish they also took plastic grocery bags!
David's Trash Service does recycle. They are picking mine up today...the first Friday of each month. Also, if you live in Greenville you are not more that three or four miles from a satellite dump site. Take five minutes out your busy day and recycle...or at least use the bottle over and over again. Your tap water is just as good as the water you but from the store. Same with plastic bags from the grocery store. Take your own bags. Do your part!
