The leader of the North Carolina Senate says he won't fight wind farms proposed offshore from an area he represents.

The leader of the North Carolina Senate says he won't fight wind farms proposed offshore from an area he represents.

WRAL-TV reported that Sen. Marc Basnight said a public meeting in Buxton Friday that he's aware of concerns that wind turbines could disrupt scenic coastal views and tourism. But Basnight says alternative energy sources must be considered to thwart global warming.

His comments came at a meeting where researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill described a new study that found 2,800 square miles of coastal water could generate industrial-scale wind energy.

The researchers say offshore wind farms could supply 130 percent of all the power used by North Carolina in 2007, if all the usable waters were fully developed.

Jan, its like the OLF, if you think you can put farms like that in NC, then stop mixing so much snake oil with your koolaid. Jan, I am a democrat plain and simple. If you think our leadership is good or strong, I need only to remind you to look at the bottom right side of the witn posts here. You are defending the most corrupt government in the history of this nation. So much, I am ashamed to tell people I am democrat. You should run from your statement with your tail between your legs. So, you will take someones word for windmills? I have a bridge I own in NYC that I am willing to let go cheap, you taken?

how pathedic. we have Good strong Democratic leadership to help us work thru the difficult times imposed on us by previous weak leader, BULLEST FOR THEIR buddies best interest, is what has got us in straits to start with however, with conservation and inventation and exploration, we might get back to some sense of normal way of life. We surely hope so. .the way snake oil the Honorable Senate Leaders restuarant that was rebuilt in about 90 days, well for your polls , the construction company had 2 shifts , working 6 days weekly 24 hrs daily. By the way I mean working... not around picking up a paycheck like you can see all too often in other areas. Beautifully designed, functional,very nice. however the minimun amount of insurance he received probably will cover the cost of replacing the kitchen as it is now. I know the last three owners of this biz and they all are honorable MEN. If off-shore is a problem, put them on the mainland we can handle it.
