A group of high school students in the East are working to protect our coast.
About 15 Jones Senior High School Students helped move hundreds of bags of oyster shells and rocks closer to the White Oak River Shoreline on Jones Island.
It's a part of Hammocks Beach State Park near Swansboro in Onslow County.
Officials with the State Coastal Federation say the goal is to line the shoreline with the bags to prevent further beach erosion.
The oyster shells will also provide a home for many oyster larva as some like to attach to old shells.
