Wow; placebo effects, hypocrites, whiners, sheep, and what-about-me people everywhere. I hope this crowd toughens up before a real catastrophe occurs. I can see the few of us who will be alive and well post-apocalypse, animalistic or not. You are exposed to more disease downtown than this could have ever been. Stupidity should be fatal. C'mon people! Wake up! A society full of tree huggers and weaklings. Obese people die from sodas and sugar, yet nobody wants to sue sugar manufacturers. Get over it, and learn INdependence rather than dependence on outside sources spoonfeeding you the things needed for survival.

i don't understand how people can get up here and say stop all the fussing about the water.. yeah it was only for a day but we ca still be concerned about what kind of stuff is in water that we have to use everyday. to me that is nasty to think about what was in the water. also are we not going to be told what really happened? i do belive we should know. some people are just taking it as a joke but it isn't funny at all.

I use to work for the Pitt county D.O.T we had a guy who ran a backhoe where ever he worked he dug up water lines, telephone lines or anything else that was underground one telephone repairman said as long as he worked for the state he had job security. One only had to watch the water lines being repaired to wonder how could anyone drink that water.

GUC doesn't (or won't tell) what caused the problem. How can we be sure it won't happen again. Feedback from GUC employees is that a sewer line was connected to a water line. Guess they wouldn't want to admit that BooBoo. Smells fishy.

Folks, please stop your whining about a minor incident.I agree with "Dude" and "Can't Believe." There are so many ignorant comments regarding this water issue and people just need to get over it.We were only inconvienced for one day! What's going on in the flood plagued Midwest is a major problem and those poor people are dealing with it like adults.

Is it really safe or is it still the same water they piped to us before -- just without the recent flavor enhancers?

I find it insulting that we were never told the what the test results were? Do they think the local residents are stupid and won't comprehend? What was the exact measurement of the contamination? Was there a 'grave danger' or a slight risk? Surely the local rivers, lakes, streams all have some level of contamination as well!!

If GUC or any other company provides services to the public for money, they are obligated to make sure they provide the public with safe drinking water. It is a different situation in a natural disasters. This case is not a natural disaster. GUC's customers have every right to expect clean contaminant-free water provided to them. This is not a third-world country that's lacking in modern technology and the means of keeping the water tested and safe.

Just think of all the soon to be $8.00 a gallon gas people wasted running around getting their $50 worth of water they didn't need. Free water? For this GUC should: 1)Pay off the balance on my 135% mortgage 2)Buy me a Cadillac every three years 3)Mow my loan for free for ten years 4)Give me free gas and electric forever 5)Come change my depends once a week.

They didn't. They said the GUC estimated the problem would be resolved in 48 hours. Lab tests take about 24 hours to return results. It isn't something that can be done instantly.

You're the one who bought 50 bucks worth of water. The GUC did their job, and Im glad they handled it the way they did. Why are some of you people blaming them for contaminating the water? It could have been a million things. We have over 500 miles worth of water pipe in Greenville. It's likely there is a break in the line, especially considering most of the contamination is located in the County Home Rd, area. It takes almost a day to properly incubate and test the samples, it has nothing to do with old technology. I'd rather they do it right, than to try and rush it. And news flash, the GUC is owned by the City. If the GUC was responsible for compensating businesses, and all of you, everyone in Greenville would fit the bill, not the GUC.

My question for everyone is does anyone remember the flood after hurricare Floyd? We couldn't drink the water for a long time after that either and this is just a reminder to be prepared for the hurricare season. I know we have not been hit with a major storm in a while but it is just a matter of time before we reach a real disaster again.

Should I be concerned? I boiled some water but I'm looking at it confused... the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the news flash of "we need to boil poopy water" was... If you boiled a load of your own feces, would you still drink it...? I refuse to boil my water. I taped all my faucet's off so my kids wouldn't used them and immediately brought a water supply to suffice China. I don't want to seem like a panicky, freak-outed person, but...could I please get a straight answer of yes or no?

All of you that might be dismayed about the bottled water you drank need to consider that you can keep it for the next hurricane or disaster. You should keep a supply of 1 gallon per person per day at your home for emergency preparedness. The run on bottled water makes a clear note of the lack of emergency preparedness. Please take this minor incident as a wake up call to be better prepared for a real disaster.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The news release from GUC gives specific locations that still have the boil alert.

Now that the boil water advisory is lifted, hopefully all these fruitcakes will go away. GUC simply was following State Law by handling things the way they did and if the media had told people this, there would not have been all this uproar. Typical sensationalism by these people!

I Think that the state or governmment should have been doing tests earlier so they could have prevented all this nonsense! We REALLY need an update in our technology! Its not about having to make my own food cause i love doing that. Its that the E.Coli could have been prevented with a more precise or frequent check up/update. If you have any responses to my opinion e-mail me at :chrryappl9@aol.com

They say the water is not shoing any contanimation, all I ask is that they inform us and the business owners if it could possibly be safe to re-open. It is my birthday, and I would like to go to Outback for dinner! No big deal either way, many more birthdays to come.

Some people are making mountains out of mole hills. You can flush your toilet so don't complain. If GUC cut off the water supply I would think you would be more worried about where your waste is going to go. But after reading the posts I think some of you are still using an outhouse to relieve yourselves. You should feel good that PCHD and GUC are doing their job and looking after your safety.

What whiners you all are. Consider this as a practice run for future catastrophes...if you don't wake up and take care of your environment on a daily basis, you will face many situations worse than this--how about no water at all--ever? Consider that the aquafir is diminising and that global warming is affecting our weather and melting our ice- bergs...wake up to the importance of protecting our natural resources DAILY; if not for yourself, for your children and/or grandchildren. Our society has become "takers" and "gimme, gimme people" and "I-don't-care-about-anyone-but-myself-people" It's all about me, me, me and it's very sad. The comments here are all proof of the pettiness. Wouldn't we all love to have hind sight? It's easy to complain about "the shoulds" -- but did you call a neighbor to check on them or take water to the nursing homes? That would have been more productive than these accusatory comments.

So what if its been worse before, it still sucks that its happening now. I don't pay GUC to deliver water with crap in it to my house. Not only that, but the hurricanes where a natural disaster so forgiving GUC for that is a lot easier than for contaiminating the water during a drought. I would seriously recommend we all take contaiminated H2O very seriously, especially with the lack of good H2O thats been around our parts here lately.

Either some people need to go back to school for reading comprehension or they just need to read period. Here is an idea, do a simple google search and see what you come up with, it isn't hard. You would be surprised at what you learn on your own without having someone spoon feed you the information. Is this a bother, yeah. Is it the end of the world, no. Will you get over it, you are going to have to. Just remember this situation and the others when it becomes voting time. In the mean time, boil some water, let it cool, then take a bath and get over it already.

Just a thought, but I don't like poo in my water. Is our situation worse than Iraq, China, Midwest Flooding, Hugo, Floyd, or Katrina? Nah. I just have this thing against poo in my water. You can use antibacterial soap all day long, but you are still rinsing that soap off with poopy water. I don't know WHY in the WORLD GUC is being so casual about bathing in this stuff. Think of the God-Awful infections you can get in your eyes, ears, nose, skin, genitals..... I think it is safe to say that poopy water is no good regardless of what soap you use.
