We continue our week long look back at the ten year anniversary of Hurricane Floyd with a stop in Kinston.

Part of that community remains condemned, never to be built on again.

Mounds of junk and tracings of trees are all that remain in one portion of town where several boarded up homes remain.

Flood waters raced through Kinston in 1999 and destroyed many homes. The area is now restricted to the public.

Many people, like Harriet Harper, remember the destruction. "After awhile it came up to the door so we said we wasn't going to move, but we said we better break camp and head up on outta here."

City officials say they pick up the junk that has been dumped behind the abandoned at least twice a year.
