The weather may have been a factor in a fire that badly damaged a building in Grimesland.

Several fire crews were called to the corner of Pitt and Boyd Streets.

Fire crews managed to put out the blaze before it did any damage to the house nearby.

Crews on the scene said they were unsure what caused the fire.

If it's the same one I drove by, it was actually Friday night, not Saturday, when the story was posted. They must have called in volunteer firefighters from all over Pitt County, because they were coming from all directions. I saw no fire, however, so it may have been out or at least well-controlled when I drove by, around 8:45PM Friday.
