The Evans Road Fire in Hyde County is now 80% contained at 40,704 acres.

Firefighters continue to flood hot spots and heat sources that have
been pinpointed by infrared imagery. Some of these hot spots are in
remote areas far from roads and difficult to reach with water.
Firefighters are also patrolling on a routine basis looking for
hotspots that could threaten firelines.

Continued improvement in containment of the fire has allowed
managers to begin releasing some personnel and equipment that are no
longer needed. As conditions improve, additional personnel and
equipment will be released.
