A request for a fire management assistance declaration for the containment of the Evans Road Fire in Hyde County has been denied.

Now U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole is asking President Bush to reconsider.

The request was originally denied by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. But as fire suppression efforts have continued into the tenth day and costs have mounted to more than $1.1 million, Dole is calling on the president to review the request.

I really think the president needs to step in and help with this terrible, horrible thing. There are people , homes , animals, farm land and ect in very big danger.

That's very well true, tax payer. I think anyone in Beaufort and Hyde Counties can second that.

They protect land from oil drilling because of the caribou in Alaska of which we only need about 2000 acres then they don't help to stop a 42000 acre fire from spreading which is in/near a wildlife refuge. Sounds ridiculous to me! Maybe it is a conspiracy to get their OLF! Go Libby Go! We might have tar on our heels but we do not have our heads in the sand. Well at least some of us don't.

This is a disaster and FEMA should help!

Bush did not deny the request in the beginning, The Federal Emergency Management Agency did. Dole is trying to go around them by asking Bush for help. Do not be quick to judge Bush on actions that have not taken place yet.

I bet if it were Texas where Bush is from he would send help. How did this man make it in office for two terms?

I agree. I guess because Hyde County is the "boonies" that none of the big wigs recognize that they need help too!!! I bet if it were their families in that county they would be the first ones to ask for help!

I guess they don't care since it's not California.
