Some area motels are packed as hundreds and hundreds of firefighters are in eastern Carolina helping battle the flames from the Hyde County wildfire.

That's especially true in Washington in Beaufort County and Plymouth in Washington County. Many area motels have blocks of rooms reserved for firefighters coming off the line for a shower and some rest. Holiday Inn Express in Washington says even though the fire's a bad thing, it's good for business.

More than a few area motels reported no vacancy. Some innkeepers are suggesting travelers try motels in nearby Williamston or Greenville.

Are you people seriously trying to get this fire out, or just making major overtime due to our bad economy? Out the Spot! Out the Fire I Say!!

Slight Edit

WITN, that is very noble way of saying thanks and we your viewers appreciate that. I understand a state fund pays for the rooms and food, however, buying them a meal is not a bad idea. I think they get a per diem which isn't that much. Kind of nice to have a steak instead of a burger if you know what I mean. It might be a good time to pull one asside and ask them if they need anything of the community. It is kind of hard to tell since most change out and wear regular clothes. I am sure the hotels could help. Thanks again, Rusty

WITN - Can you find out who is paying for the motel rooms of the firefighters? I certainly hope that it is not coming out of their pockets. I would be interested in paying if it's coming out of their pockets and I would also be interested in taking them water and food. Can you give us this information???

People could open up their homes.
