One school in Eastern Carolina has raised more than $10,000 to donate to the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
Rocky Mount Academy announced it raised $10,002.77 for Haiti earthquake victims over the last five weeks. Fundraisers began at the school after the earthquake hit in January. Students and staff organized a bake sale, a talent show and a spare change collection campaign. Those efforts brought in $5,456.27.
EF Tours, a student travel company the school is associated with, donated $4,546.50 to the school's fundraising efforts.
All funds are being donated to the American Red Cross for their Haiti Relief Fund.
"We are so proud of our students for caring about the people of Haiti and working so tirelessly to raise funds to help them," Headmaster Tom Stevens said. "Our hearts are with the Haitians, and, when our students see a news story on them, they can always know that they were a part of the solution."
