WITN News at Sunrise is road tripping again to area schools. The first stop was Windsor Elementary School in Bertie County. Our committee selected the school after so many students wrote wonderful things about the school on the "How Cool is Your School" blog on witn.com.
Windsor Elementary is home to grades one through five. Their mascot is the polar bear.
Principal Renee Duckenfield says her philosophy on leading the school is to make sure they celebrate the achievements of the students.
Some of the innovative programs at Windsor Elementary include the Estimation Station, where children learn how to get a sense of numbers by estimating how many objects are in a jar. Windsor in the Spotlight focuses on the arts, helping children excel in chorus, drama and dance.
Principal Duckenfield also credits the success of the school to the wonderful staff.
Be sure to watch the video of the live broadcast from Friday, November 6.

I do commend the principal and staff of Windsor Elementary. They have been a powerful force in helping to get our kids focused on the goals of learning. We as parents totally support this school and their efforts to education our children. It was good to see the many students and parents who came out to our moment in the sun monumental. The only flaw for this show was not on the part of the staff and students of WES but on our superintendent who seemed a bit undressed for the occasion. A suit and tie would have seemed more appropriate for Mr. Zullinger

It's good to have a great principal like Ms. Duncanfield in Bertie County. She would be a great mentor for other principals in the county.
