The number of teens getting pregnant in North Carolina has reached a 30 year low but that number is no comfort for the many teens, parents and families dealing with adolescent girls becoming new moms.

So at what age should you talk to your kids about sex and the dangers it could lead to like diseases or pregnancy?

Some suggest you should begin as early as 11 or 12 years old. For one Beaufort County teen that issue is water under the bridge because at 15 she's already a mother.

Andrea Wilson has quickly learned that being a mom is tough work.

Her 8 month old son is named Argelio was born premature.

The only free time Andrea gets to be a kid herself is when she's heading to school.

Andrea's mother, Tammy was 15 herself when she first got pregnant. Now, she's a grandmother 10 times over. ALL But one of her four daughters had a baby by the age of 15. Despite all that history, Tammy says she was shocked to learn Andrea was pregnant. Tammy says the one subject she never really discussed with her daughter was sex.

Andrea is certainly not alone. In 2008 the number of pregnancies in North Carolina was just under twenty thousand. A staggering number, but it represents a 30 year low.

But high numbers are a claim to shame for several Eastern Carolina counties. Leading the state in pregnancies among teens ages 15-19 is Tyrrell County. Edgecombe County comes in number two. Out of every 1000 teenage girls in Edgecombe County, an average of 110 get pregnant.

The rate of pregnancy among white teens between the ages of 15 and 19 in our state is 50 out of every 1000. Among minorities it was almost 80. The rate keeps rising among Hispanics. Out of every 1000 Hispanic girls between 15 and 19 in North Carolina, an average of 150 will get pregnant each year.

Andrea's friend Bearniece who lives right next door also got pregnant at 14. She has a young daughter and she feels part of the reason is because her mom never talked about sex.

Andrea says when she's done with high school she wants to be a nurse and work with children. She also says the father of the child is not involved in her son's life.

Never think that all is bad about this situation. I know this is not the perfect world, but sometimes mistakes happen. I know we as a society don't want to accept these things sometimes, but there are people out there that make the best of a bad situation. I know of one myself which I ended up marrying. So don't always judge everyone before you judge yourself !!!

momof5 - get a grip. The Duggars were doing very well LONG before they got a tv show. And, if Don't worry about it! was able to get into college with her language skills, I have very little hope for the future of this country. That's just sad. Really sad. Something tells me her "college courses" in criminal justice are of the tv commercial variety.

Last I checked, Roe v. Wade was still upheld in the US Supreme Court...if you don't want a baby, then don't. Not that hard of a choice to make, you do or you don't. Pregnant @ 16---you had a choice, you made it. Get over it. Roe v. Wade still stands....
