I think the new look is awful!I think PeeDee should go back to his good ol'self. The old look is appealing to children of all ages. I think we are setting ourselves up for more joking. Most everyone that I have spoken to about they think the new look is AWFUL!!!! Please change him back. We love PeeDee (the old look!)!!!!!

I have an idea... Since no true blood pirate ever had such great teeth, let's either remove, blacken out, or discolor several of his teeth. Then he would appear more realistic. The current teeth drive all the folks around me in the stands crazy!

I want the old Pee Dee back! New Pee Dee looks like he spent too much time in the tanning bed. And he's enough to scare me, much less the kiddies. Maybe the new dental school students can get the ginormous teeth right. All I asked for is for old Pee Dee to get a newer (cleaner) face, not a hideous new look! I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only person who thinks the new PeeDee was a bad idea. When I saw "IT" on the news Saturday evening I said to my wife, "What in the world were they thinking?" Not only does he look like a freak, but the materials from the head to the hands look cheap. The face looks like a paper mache mask created by a middle school student in art class. The smile looks like Morgan Fairchild in the movie "Holy Man" when Eddie Murphy's character goes crazy with the age-erasing contraption that she is hooked up to. Bring back the old PeeDee!

I hate the new Pee Dee! His pants are way too tight and his coat does not even cover his butt. It is absolutely ridiculous! For so many years children and fans from all over Eastern North Carolina have loved Pee Dee he was an icon. Everyone wanted to get their pictures with him or have him wave at them. I am an ECU student but a die hard Tarheel fan till I die. I always didn't like the old Pee Dee, kind of childish/cartoonish, but this one does it for me. Modern, looks more like the actual Pee Dee on the logo, and it just more professional looking. If only we had this mascot when our football team was relevant on the national stage, if only.

I do not like this new pirate. A mascot should be able to inspire fans- this one just looks plain rediculous. Pee Dee should not be smiling. Bring back the old Pee Dee. I am a devoted Pirate fan- but I will promise you this- I will not be purchasing any merchandice with this joke on it. I'm for when we used to have the old pirate, a real person dressed for warm or cold weather. The Pirate that takes the field before the team is awesome. THe fake smile, and pink face looks frigtening to small children. The other pee dee was a fixture, and too cartoonish, Go for the real thing!!

To Mack - So part of the game is missing field goals in regulation time from 30 yards out from the middle of the field. If he had made his feild goals there wouldn't be a need for overtime. A win is a win, true. But I bet your one of those who think our win against UNC at home was awesome in overtime, lest we forget the FIVE field goals missed during the game. Games are now won and lost with a field goal. Keep fussing about the mascot, I hope Skip's recruiting off the soccer team.

The new Pee Dee is fine. Why do people feel like they need to start a petition over everything they dont like. The point has already been made that people dont like the new look. What more can a petition do? This version looks a lot more like the logo than the old version. A lot more. A pirate out in the sun does not have stark white skin. The old Pee Dee looked like something on Sesame Street. To me, it looks like he is saying Arrrrgh while gritting his teeth. Get over it people. Your complaints wont change nothing.

As for JP (Blounts Creek), Ben seems to be winning games when it counts, so what are you complaining about?

To all those complainers, have you seen the old mascot costume close-up lately? Yuk! I sure wouldn't want to be in that outfit! Sure, the new costume's "skin" is a bit too pink, but that can be fixed or will get worn in with age. The HUGE smile will take some getting used to, but in time, you'll get used to it. So PeeDee lost some weight, bruhsed his teeth, and cleaned himself up a bit -- good for him! What are you expecting? Do you think they're going to drag out an old ragged mascot costume and "bring old PeeDee" back just because some people complain? I don't think so.... Gotta love PeeDee, fat or thin, snarly or smiley! Go Pirates, one and all!!

The new PeeDee looks dumb. Are we promoting the new dental school or a sports team? I can hear the other schools laughing at the cheesy grin the new PeeDee has right now. Bring back the old PeeDee. I like the new mascot. It's a fresh look at a beloved mascot. Pee Dee hadn't changed in 25 years. He was long overdue for a makeover. For those who don't like the new Pee Dee your probably the same people who don't like any type of change anyway. If you wanna gripe about something gripe about the fact that ECU hasn't had a decent field goal kicker in 5 years! Let's gripe about that!

I am sitting here reading all these comments about the Pirate, and I want the old, old REAL Pirate. You know, Ed Emory, Pat Dye era. Now, that was a true Pirate. I am sick of the purple smoke. IMO, when my beloved Pirates run onto the field, nothing should be playing but our fight song. No smoke, just Pirate players and the readiness to kick teeth in. I am a parent as well (3 AND 7) and I see no problem with a real Pirate representing our team.

There is a big purple pee dee in the AD's office and nobody is talking about it!!!!Lee Workman said today that almost ALL of the responses he and Terry Holland were getting were positive ones. Have you people not emailed them? This mascot stinks and the "big wheels" are oblivious because nobody has the guts to tell them. "Joe" from Morehead sums it up for me. Even the old pee dee's are ashamed. I'm all for change but not when change means looking stupid.

The outfit update is OK, but just looks like cheap material. The head is hideous, all around just a bad design and again, cheap looking. Whoever approved this is definitely of the wine and cheese crowd. Get off the Privateers Deck and come sit in the stands to get some real feedback.

I loved the old Pee Dee. This one's face is too red and the teeth are too big. After the last Pee Dee makover they had to go back and tone the color of the face down some. Maybe they will do the same to this one. HANDS are too red also.

This is the dumbest thing East Carolina Athletics has ever done; this is an even bigger let down than ECU not finishing in the top 25 after the hot start this season. If PeeDee keeps this costume one thing is for sure ECU will finish # 1 in the country for dumbest looking mascot.

I may be the only person out there who thinks this, but I thought that the old Pee Dee was one of the best looking Mascots out there. This new thing looks like we are about to sit in some pirate classroom singing about how much we love each other and our eyepatches. I can see changing the logo to look more menacing and maybe changing the old Pee Dee's suit every once in a while but this new thing is rediculous looking. If ECU has any sense what so ever they will go back to the old Pee Dee.

Seriously...did Pee Dee go to Sunset Tan over the weekend or what? It looks more like a spray-on tan. The mascot is one of the most important symbols for the university and the new look definately missed the mark. The new clothes are okay but the head is just way off. Please change it. Remove the smile, make the eye more realistic, and definately remove the tan...I've never seen an orange pirate before.

The new "goofy" look is NOT going to improve the on the filed image. Good players improve the image. The team won a few good games and impulsively raise the AD and HC salaries. That revenue would have served better players recruiting. That budget is definitely poorly prioritized. Look at the team with two players suspended. That obviously reflects on poor recruiting. Add that UNC and Duke and even NC State are out recruiting your beloved Pirates. Then some out of reality fans hope for the CUSA championship when at best they will get a funny ding-dong bowl; go figure.

I look around at teams like LSU and Auburn, great sports programs, and they have kept to their traditions throughout the years of other schools changes. ECU is a pretty new school considering it is only 100 years old, so I ask why try to fix something that isn't broken? Pirates don't change for anyone by smiling, fake tanning like he clearly looks like he has been doing, or wear skin tight pants. I am all for supporting our team, I drove to Tulane this year, but this is not our Pee Dee. Please bring him back and show our neighboring schools that even though they change "with the times", we are timeless and love all of ECU even that which is 25 years old!

The new Pee Dee is great. Much more modern looking. My 5 year old daughter loves him. I think he will grow on everyone. I know everyone that we were around, children included, seemed to really like him. I didn't hear a single negative comment about him until after the game listening to some knucklehead on the Radio that couldn't seem to talk about anything but Pee Dee even after a big win. I think it is a matter of getting used to him. I have heard that no one liked the original Pee Dee when he was debuted in '83. It was time for a change.

The new Pee Dee is awesome with a capital AWE! He looks more like the pirate in the logo. This change was a success. I didnt like Dale Jr's new paint job but it has grown on me and now I love it. Give it a while and you will love the new Pee Dee. It is a perfect fit. People change stuff to get with the times. Some of you should too.

Being loyal Pirate fans for over 35 years and have traveled 4 to 5 hours to most all home games, we much prefer the old PeeDee over this "Sponge Bob" version. Why mess with a good thing-just clean old Pee Dee up a bit and he's good to go for another 35 years or so!! We all need to cheer old PeeDee on next game with " WE Want OLD PEEDEE Back!" or instead of the "Purple- Gold" how about ""OLD- PeeDee"

New look for PeeDee is a big improvement. The old one was ratty and looked more like something a high school would have instead of university. Anyway Peedee is for the youngsters and my kids love his new look. So, all us grownups can quit frettin about it and try to focus on something more important (like beating Southern Miss).

I agree with Dan, the jack sparrow rip off is way worse than New PeeDee (the smiling bob jokes are funny though) . I was at the Virginia game, and the level they have "cav-man" coming in the stadium on a horse going a hundred miles an hour gets the crowd amped up. if we keep the sparrow guy he needs a makeover.

Pirates of the Caribean was good and all.. but we've gone to far with that jack sparrow guy... its anti climactic. he comes out and its a stupid llul... he should be running out or swinging from a rope.. when skip holtz jumped a couple of times and the team started swaying in the endzone it fired up the crowd way more than pirate guy... This is funny. I remember when PeeDee replaced the old pirate logo/mascot and everybody hated him and wanted the old fierce looking pirate back. They said PeeDee looked like a cartoon and wasn't scary enough. Now we've got a scary cartoon looking pirate. He'll be accepted after a while. They had a contest to name PeeDee when they changed the logo/mascot. This is the same PeeDee he's just grinning.

I kind of like the change. The jacket's less like loungewear. The striped shirt's great. And I like the fuller beard. Now he looks less like Burt Reynolds (not a pirate) and more like Bluto (scourge of the seas, nemesis of Popeye). Like Bluto, Peedee must have a terrific dental plan...say, is that part of his benefits package?

The new design is cheesy. We will have to endure humiliation from other schools every time we show up with the new Pee Dee. Why not just get a new, non faded outfit but leave the design the same? We all love Pee Dee but now we are embarrassed of how he looks. This is a very poor decision and hopefully one that will be changed back. With all the needs the university has, why spend so much time, effort & money on a redesign of something we all loved to begin with?

Maybe the "Old PeeDee" needed an update and that is fine, but to have him completely redone is overboard. Young and old kids alike identify with the original mascot. Just because the university changes the logo should not mean that everything needs changing. A newer, fitter PeeDee (with the same face) with a new outfit would be fine, but to take away what FANS are used to, without a community to back this important decision, is an outrage!!!

We joked about new peedee the whole game! Looks like he's been in a tanning bed for way 2 long. I like the old Peedee and shouldn't he look intimidating??? Cheezy. I do like the new outfit.

Not to good for Pee Dee. The coat and hat don't match and he looks like he fell asleep to long on the deck with that tan. Pee Dee needed a new look, but the smile is way overboard. Pee Dee needs a mischevious grin. Tone Pee Dee's image down he is a pirate not a seaman.

It looks like PeeDee and Barney had a kid. And I thought we yelled "purle and gold" across the field, do we have to change that chant to "blue and canary" now? I wouldn't say a mascot will instill fear in opponents, but it should at least posess a little grit and intimidation. I agree with the Disney comment, can we say Mickey Mouse Club at best?!?!?

It's horrible. Absolutely horrible. Pee Dee now looks like a dork. A dork that might prey on children. Plus, why don't the hat and the coat match? Are Pirates purple or periwinkle? I would rather they have gotten rid of Pee Dee all together than to have turned him into this creepy looking freak.

I think this peedee looks scary like the scary of Jack Nicholson in the movie the shining with that crazy smile. Its supposed to be fun and kid friendly not scary. Some things are better left alone.
