The following is a statement from ECU Athletics Director Terry Holland.

While I have no first hand knowledge of the circumstance of the comments made on a radio talk show, these are the absolute facts as I know them regarding future football games with NC State:

1. Skip Holtz and Terry Holland want to play the other public Football Bowl Subdivision institutions in our state (NC State and UNC) as often as possible. These are great rivalry games that are good for the economy of this state and for eastern North Carolina in particular.

2. If NC State and UNC called today and told us that they would each play us home and home every year, we would do whatever necessary to make that work, as we did in 2006 when we moved the Virginia Tech series back a year in order to play at NC State in 2006 and have NC State and UNC in Greenville in 2007. We believe those games are that important to the future of this area economically and otherwise. We are therefore TOTALLY committed to playing games against those institutions whenever the opportunity arises for us to play them.

3. Last spring, NC State and ECU began discussions about moving games around to allow each to achieve their desired home and away "balance." ECU specifically asked about moving the 2009 game scheduled for Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium to the 2010 season. We wanted the local rivalry game with NC State in 2010 when we expect to have completed our East End Zone project that could add between 5,000 and 7,000 seats to our stadium. Our only contracted non-conference home game for the 2010 season is Navy, and having NC State in that particular year would obviously make our season ticket package more attractive for the 2010 season.

4. There have been a number of suggested resolutions to achieve each institution's desired balance, including playing once every three years in the short term while leading to a longer term agreement to settle the issue of future games when the current coaches and athletics directors are not likely to be in their present positions .

5. However, the bottom line is that ECU and NC State have a signed contract to play in Greenville in 2009, 2012 and 2016 and in Raleigh in 2008, 2010, and 2013. Until there is a different schedule mutually agreeable to both teams, ECU is prepared to continue honoring that contract and expects NC State to do the same.

Come on now B, where is your so called "Southern hospitality" at?

I agree with Leigh. Dave, you do understand the same road that brought you here will certainly carry you right back out?

Leigh: Thank you!

Deadfish: My comment was in reference to Dave Location: Greenville on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:23 PM post but WITN left out that part.

Leigh: What you are talking about? What does the community have to do with sports? I am a classy person and I don't make personal attacks on anybody. So if you want to talk about CFB we can do that in a civil way. I can handle trash talk NOT disrespectful personal attacks. Are we clear on that? Finally I need to correct myself. I was referring to Mr. T's comment posted on the Pirates Fall to #23 in AP Top 25 article instead of the other thread I quoted. Thank you

If you don't care about the community then don't let the door hit you!!!!!

"Mr. T.": On another thread I clearly posted WHY money alone would NOT lure top "prospects". What bothers me about your statement is that you said that you agreed with the factors I listed that contribute to attract a top athlete. You turn around and say: "Deadfish doesn't believe money plays a role in the attraction of talent!". I responded to that that it takes more than money to lure a HS prospect such as tradition, academic excellence and reputation. Furthermore you complimented by saying that I am very knowledgeable about CFB. To reinforce that point there a lot of colleges where money is not a problem that have not been able to compete because they lack the top talent. I expect an apology and a public retraction of your statement. Mr. T made his statement on a comment he posted under: "Pirates stunned! ECU Upset by Wolfpack 30-24". Thank you

When I hear the ECU players talk I think of the Fat Albert character Mushmouth.

ECU is rated #206 academically in the nation per: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/national-counselor-rank Just listen to the ECU players interviews...

ECU means NOTHING to me and I don't care what it does for this community. That is sad when you only need 2.0 to get into a college. It just goes to show you how LOW ECU's standards are. Also, Greenville is just a stop in the road for me and then it's back to PA. GO PENN STATE!!

Thaddeus: You are talking mighty big after ECU got defeated by a freshman QB, UHM? Secondly WHY don't you and your fellow Pirates fans lobby to play against Duke in a couple of years? My point is that Duke is rated #32 and ECU #70 according to rivals.com 2009 CFB recruiting rankings. I'll wait for your response. Thanks

Well hi deadfish and dave. We are still on the pirates can't compete subject? I can buy ECU would lose to both of those programs, but they would also lose in the booster money influx that those programs have as well. Deadfish doesn't believe money plays a role in the attraction of talent! On the conference issue, if it weren't for basketball, ECU could compete in the ACC. They would do well most years in football and baseball and other less noticed sports. However, they would have to play.....well..CUSA teams to win in basketball; a feat they have a difficult time doing now. I don't understand why you guys hate ecu so bad. If you guys are from this area you must understand that no matter where you work, most likely, ECU plays a role in the reason you have a job. Without ECU, PCMH is Beaufort County Hospital, and the city of Greenville becomes the little town between grimesland and farmville. And dave, I'd pay the ticket price to meet Paterno, the heck with the game!

I have said this for years. I am a Pirate, but a Tarheel too. They are afraid of the Pirates. They both know that when we execute, we will win the game. Go Pirates!!

I agree deadfish. ECU would get waxed by USC by at least 50 points. Also,if ECU thinks they are such a big boy team why don't they invite Penn State to Greenville? I'm sure that the stadium would sell out in minutes. To answer my own question, Terry Holland is scared to have ECU play a top 15 program, and NO I don't mean WVU either!

Posted by: deadfish Location: nc on Sep 24, 2008 at 07:27 PM
ECU fans why don't you lobby for an ECU VS USC? That game will definitely be sold out. That speaks for itself! You(ECU) will have a taste of playing against a real "big boy"! Man talking about making your season ticket attractive...
