Patrick Pinkney threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jamar Bryant with 1:41 left to play, and No. 14 East Carolina rallied for a 28-24 victory against Tulane on Saturday.
The Pirates (3-0, 1-0 Conference USA) vaulted into the national rankings and national spotlight by upsetting Virginia Tech and West Virginia in consecutive weeks, and barely escaped having Tulane (1-2)pull the same trick on them.
Pinkney completed 22-of-32 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns, and the Pirates improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1999. ECU secured the victory when Pierre Bell intercepted
Kevin Moore's pass at the Green Wave 45 with 28 seconds left.

Mr. Bob: USC kicks OSU "derrière" and you call it a collapse. Should I asses your CFB knowledge based on that statement? BTW I did NOT attend USC. I have been a big Trojan fan just before OJS. I'm curious did you watch the WVA VS CU game? I also agree with "Anti Pirates". ECU does NOT belong with the Big Boys. BTW based on ECU's early success this season some ECU fans whose hopes are too big for their britches unrealistically calling for ECU to move to a bigger conference. Where are they going to get the talent to compete? I'll answer that question indirectly! According to rivals.com CFB recruiting rankings Duke is rated #32, ECU #70. You can easily infer from that that ECU will have a tough time beating Duke in two to three years if they were to play each other. By the same token don't be surprised if it doesn't happen the other way around! Dave: If ECU beats NC ST by three points they will drop another four spots!

After the NC State Wolf Pack beat up the Pirates this Saturday, ECU will fade away out of the Top 25 faster than a fart in a hurricane.

Anti Pirates: Given your comments about WVa., Va Tech, and alas ECU, not being among "the BIG BOYS (your use of capitalization here speaks volumes- literally and figuratively) of college football; with bated breath we await your definition of a "BIG BOY". Cue the LSU, USC response, which I'll accept. But, please do not state some Big 10 all bark, no bite team in wake of THE (a nod to your affection for capitalization) Ohio State University's annual collapse this weekend. Secondly, tell me please your assocation with this school- are you alum. or bandwagoneer that just likes to tweak the locals with chest-thumping quasi-backing of annual powerhouse? Lemme guess, you also like the Patriots (damn those Giants!), the Yankees, and the Harlem Globetrotters?
