Standout Goalkeeper Honored By C-USA Head Coaches
AMBER CAMPBELL SELECTED TO C-USA PRESEASON TEAM

IRVING, Texas – East Carolina senior goalkeeper Amber Campbell has been named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team in a vote taken by the conference's 12 head coaches, according to an announcement by the league Tuesday afternoon. Campbell’s selection marks the second consecutive season that a Pirate has earned the accolade.

Campbell holds the top career goals against average in program history (0.98) and is second on the career charts in minutes played (5583), saves (282), shutouts (21.0) and saves per game (4.7). She garnered Second Team All-C-USA honors a year ago while ranking first among conference goalkeepers in goals against average, save percentage, shutouts and shutouts per game. The Frederick, Md. Native also finished in the top 20 nationally in save percentage (11th) and goals against average (15th). Additionally, Campbell and the ECU defense produced a streak of 804 minutes without allowing a goal, which stands as the 20th-longest span in NCAA history.

The Pirates return five starters and 18 letterwinners from last year's squad that compiled a 9-5-5 overall record and a 3-3-3 mark in conference play. ECU set program benchmarks defensively, recording 11 shutouts and allowing just 12 goals.

Defending league champion Memphis was predicted to win the conference title again, followed by UCF, Colorado College and Rice. The top eight finishers in the regular season earn a spot in the Conference USA Tournament, which is hosted this year by Rice.

The Pirates open the 2008 regular season on August 22 at Bunting Field against Western Carolina. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
