Five Arrested After Prostitution Operation
Halifax County deputies began the operation after getting citizen complaints and crimestopper tips of suspicious activity in Weldon.

Five people have been nabbed in what deputies say was a six month long undercover operation into prostitution problems in one Eastern Carolina town.

Halifax County deputies, with the help of officers from Kinston, began the operation after getting citizen complaints and crimestopper tips of suspicious activity in Weldon.

The following people were charged in the operation:

Gloria Harrison, 47, of Weldon, was arrested on March 11th and charged with solicit for prostitution. Harrison was given a $500.00 bond with a court date of April 7th. Deputies say Harrison has convictions of Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Cocaine, Resisting an Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Larceny, and Shoplifting that date back to 1995.

Barbara Wood, 47, of Weldon, was arrested on March 2nd and charged with two counts of larceny, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Woods was given a $1,000.00 bond with a court date of April 7th. Deputies say Woods has convictions of Driving While License Revoked, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Larceny, Simple Assault, Trespassing, Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, and Assault With a Deadly Weapon that date back to 1992.

Deavon Barrett, 27, of Weldon, was arrested on March 3rd and charged with solicit for prostitution. Barrett was given a $100.00 bond and an April 7th court date. Deputies say Barrett has convictions of Possession of Cocaine, Possession With Intent to Sell Cocaine, Larceny, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Stolen Goods, and Prostitution that date back to 1998.

Michael Ponton, of Weldon, was arrested on March 17th and charged with sell cocaine, deliver cocaine, and possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine. Ponton was given a $1,500.00 bond. Deputies say Ponton has convictions of Maintaining a Place for Controlled Substances, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Injury to Personal Property, Larceny, Possession of Stolen Goods, DWI Level 2, and DWI Level 3 that date back 1999.

Helen Bell, 45, of Weldon, was arrested on March 10 and charged with deliver cocaine, two counts of deliver marijuana and solicit for prostitution. Bell was given a $3,000.00 bond and a court date of April 7th.

Tasha, The problem does not lie within the fact that two adults are having sexual encounters. If you care to read the article and see what kinds of other crimes these bozo's have been convicted of, it should be of no surprise that prostitution attracts bad elements. These "women" are often addicted to drugs of some form or another, have a history of violence, theft, and diseases. Would you want it to be legal for these people to "work" in your neighborhood???
