One shooting victim collapsed right in front of a police car and now Ahoskie police are looking for who shot two men.
Police say two men were shot outside a dance at the American Legion building on McGlohon Street around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The shooting happened as several police officers were at the site providing security for the event.
Chief Troy Fitzhugh tells WITN News that one officer was inside the building, while two others were outside handling a fight. He said one officer was in his cruiser with a fight suspect when he heard 5 or 6 shots. One victim then collapsed in front of the police car, having been shot in the chest. The other victim hobbled up to the car after being shot in the leg.
EastCare was called in to transport at least one of the victims to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Fitzhugh says a lot of people from the surrounding counties were in Ahoskie Tuesday night, for the Hertford County Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament of area high school teams, but that the dance was not connected to the tournament.
Detectives are interviewing people, and Chief Fitzhugh says they are "actively looking for a shooter." Fitzhugh said he did not have the names or ages of the victims at the time of our interview, but noted they were not high school students.
Police say they have no suspects, but are looking for a beige, older model Grand Marquis that was seen leaving right after the shooting.
Ahoskie Police are asking anyone who may be able to help with their investigation to call either the Police Department at (252) 332-5011, or call crime stopper, at (252) 332-4066.

for those of you who think govt involvement is not an answer, you are wrong... the govt got rid of polio, measles, chicken pox and every other bug that you take a standard vaccine for today... there was a time when govt involvement actually did work... i agree with you that today's govt wont be able to get anything done, however. Privatized companies are whats killing the govt... for instance, the community support companies, the private drug companies, and any other company that can bill medicaid for services. Theses companies are being set up left and right so they can exploit the system for our tax dollars... and the violent children that are not being helped is only a by-product...
mordock, Great job! It sounds like you stood up for yourself and took control of your life instead "mooching". I have the utmost respect for responsible individuals that do the right thing. God bless you!
puzzled I am not enforcing a racist notion on my son, and no everyone is not waiting to see black men in prison or dead, I don't want this to happen, everyone needs to wake up and get their life together. no matter what color you are everyone can accomplish something in life. Most of the teenagers I know I encourage them to get it together and make something positive happen in their life. I'm not racist I love all, god put all of us here. I'm glad that there are other people trying to help.
