Authorities say they have charged a high school student after the school was placed on lockdown for an hour Friday morning.

16-year-old Cedrick Eaddy was charged with bringing a weapon on campus and simple assault for a separate incident.

J.H. Rose High School was placed on lockdown after another student said they saw a student with a gun.

Eaddy was found off campus a short while later, but police say no gun was found.

Police say Eaddy told them he brought a stick on campus after he was involved in an assault the day before at school.

Pitt County Schools spokeswoman Heather Mayo says the school came off lockdown at 10:26 a.m.

A second person, 18-year-old Stanley Tyson was charged with trespassing on school property.

Previous Story

Multiple Greenville police units have responded to J.H. Rose High School as the school is under lockdown this morning after a gunman was seen on campus.

Entrances to the high school were blocked by police vehicles.

School spokeswoman Heather Mayo says the school was placed on lockdown after a student reported seeing a gunman on campus. Mayo says the school was placed in lockdown at 9:32 a.m.

A short time later Mayo says police caught the person off campus, but no gun was found.

She says at that point the school went on modified lockdown as police search for the weapon.

The modified lockdown means teachers have resumed instructions, but the doors to the school are still locked. Students are not allowed in hallways, and no one can either leave or enter the school.

WITN has a crew at the high school and will have more updates as they are available.
