Greenville Police records show 17 pages with over 600 calls to the Walmart on Greenville Boulevard in Greenville within the last 12 months.

Calls ranged from assault to hit-and-run to shoplifting, producing over 200 actual reported crimes.

Residents like Zeke Jackson are concerned.

"Yes, the Walmart here in Greenville is the most dangerous place in town," Jackson said.

This summer, a double murder drew attention to downtown Greenville.

While upgraded safety measures were needed there, Jackson says, he feels resources - and more specifically tax-payers money - are being wasted.

"Round numbers - $500,000 on officers in downtown Greenville," Jackson said. "And the last time I pulled up the call sheet on that, we had 80 calls within that same twelve month period."

Compare that 80 to the hundreds of calls to the Walmart area, and it seems like a striking difference. But Greenville's police chief says calls for service do not equal crime.

William Anderson says, "I would describe Walmart as being a hot-spot for calls for service, not necessarily a hot-spot for crime. We average approximately 58 calls for service at Walmart per month."

Walmart management denied WITN's request to be on camera about this issue, but Chief Anderson says they have been working with Walmart leaders and are close to finding a solution.

"We're in the final stages of contract negotiations to actually hire off duty officers that would be paid by Walmart to work at that location."

Police records show four violent crimes in the Walmart parking lot within the last year. The total of violent crimes in downtown Greenville was listed at three.
