Over fifty people have been arrested and millions of dollars worth of drugs seized in our state in what's being called one of the largest single U.S. strikes against Mexican drug cartels.

Just weeks ago in Edgecombe County, with the joint effort of police and sheriff's departments across the east, they took down a major player in La Familia, which is a violent drug trafficking cartel based in Mexico. That was just one of the many arrests across the east.

Tuesday those involved with the project met to discuss just how important drug busts like this are.

Greenville police chief William Anderson says, "This is a major, major success story, bringing down one of the most violent, dangerous cartels that's been bringing drugs across the nation, particularly to eastern Carolina."

The group says this project is making a dent on the drug war, and they plan to continue such projects.

this is really funny, they didnt say the amount of any of the drugs seized in the bust so nobody knows how much is going "missing" from the evidence room within the next 2-3 weeks and "leaked" back out into out streets.......

I agree with JR 100%. If there wasn't any users there wouldn't be a market. No demand, no supply. Simply put ! As for the ones that want to place this on illegals I would like for them to think again. There are tons of illegal pot farms and meth labs going on right under our noses each and every day. If you google meth labs in NC, you will find tons of them marking the western end of NC. http://www.practicenotes.org/vol10_n2/map.htm Not all drug traffic comes from out of the country.
