Thousands of dollars worth of moonshine and a stainless steel still, that's what state ALE agents say they discovered in Whitakers in Nash County last week.

Two brothers, Herman and Joseph Wood have been charged with unlawful possession of equipment or ingredients to make spirituous liquor, unlawfully manufacturing spirituous liquor and willful and unlawful possession of non-taxpaid spirituous liquor.

ALE agents say smoke coming from a barn on an unusually hot day was a good tip off that something illegal was brewing. Inside they found 460 full quart glass mason jars of moonshine, worth $11,000.

They say the Wood brothers were involved in a large scale illegal alcohol operation, with the moonshine being made from watermelons, strawberries, apples, pears and plums. ALE says the brothers allegedly grew and prepared all the fruit on their property on Red Oak Road.

To the ALE officers......GREAT JOB!!!!!! This is a trend that most people dont know about it statrs like this...ALCOHOL THEN MARIJUANA THEN COCAINE THEN CRACK COCAINE THEN HERION THEN METH. When you loose your job because one of these impairing drugs and yes people alcohol is a drug, then we as citizens become the victims of these people. When theses addicts need their impairing drugs and the only way to get is to break into your house while you are working then guess what people you now become the VICTIM!!! These guys that produced the HOOCH were probably good ole country boys that didnt mean no harm. But what if it got into the hands of the wrong people. I will close with this... GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
