Deputies say a dog was killed with a baseball bat, and then burned on a trash pile.

Now two people are under arrest for animal cruelty.

Onslow County deputies have charged Michael Gibson and Jessica Magdalenski, both of Mitchell Lane in Maysville, with cruelty to animals and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Deputies say in mid-October Onslow County Animal Control received a call about possible animal abuse. Officers found the burned body and blood spatters on the outside of the house and called in deputies for assistance.

The couple told authorities that the dog tried to attack the woman and her young child, and was aggressive toward other animals in the house. Gibson told deputies that they used a baseball bat because no one had a gun.

Both people posted bonds of $5,000 and released from jail.

I don't care about their reason for beating the dog to death. It was malicious and far beyond defending anyone. The only reason they tried to burn the dog was to clean up the evidence of their wrongdoing. They knew they went overboard with killing the dog. Unfortunately, they'll get off scott free. Most animal abusers do.

John in washington, ask the N.C legislature about conspiracy to commit a felony.they did it in 2004 with an ex post facto law to make criminals out of a good portion of law abiding people.they were never tried for it either.
