Deputies say the man who shot another man in a store parking lot last week is now behind bars.

Marquis Whitmore turned himself into authorities on Monday.

He is charged with the October 12th shooting at the Green Store outside of Roanoke Rapids. The 20-year-old is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a weapon into occupied property, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Whitmore is in jail on a $25,000 bond and has a court date on November 18th. Last week deputies charged Quante Scott with being an accessory after they say he removed the firearm from the shooting scene.

The victim told detectives he was in his car, trying to leave the parking lot of the grocery store, when a gunman jumped out of a gray Honda. Deputies say the gunman demanded money and shot the man in the car in the leg. After a struggle, the gunman got away in the Honda.
