A shooting Saturday night in Engelhard has landed two people in the hospital and another in jail.
Hyde County deputies say they were called to 146 Cooper Lane around 10:45 p.m. There they found two victims, one a 10-year-old boy, shot with a 9mm pistol.
Mack Mann of Engelhard is now charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. The 47-year-old Mann is being held on a $500,000 bond.
Deputies say both victims were taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital and they are expected to make a full recovery.

For the comment on Nov 4(?) that stated the first responders did not have the same training that EMS has, guess again. Most of the responding first responders (on this scene) have had the same training as the currently employed EMS that responded. The first responders waited until they were told the scene was secure, they did not say the gunman had not been apprehended they said the scene was secure for rescue personnel - anyone in "scanner land" would have heard the transmission between first responders and dispatch - as first responders (fire dept) and law enforcement can't communicate directly. Did EMS inquire as to whether the scene was secure or did they go in there unaware? As of late it seems that EMS is gettin to be a joke. Many of the "imports" that have been hired lately have never worked in a system where they have had a 30 min to Hour long transport to the hospital, they have been used to 5-10 mins.

For the comment posted on Oct. 22 @ 6:16 am. The child shot is not a Hyde County resident, he is living in Pitt County, therefore Hyde County is not responsible to complete an investigation unless request by Pitt County. And if you think DSS is corrupt, maybe you need to apply for a job there.
