A Duplin County jury this week convicted 18-year-old Jamar Marquez Goodman of Raleigh of robbery with a dangerous weapon, but Goodman is now out on bond.
Goodman was sentenced to 46 to 65 months in prison for robbing the Andy's restaurant in Faison at gunpoint in May. Testimony showed Goodman was at the back door of the business when an employee went to get a mop bucket. Goodman cocked the gun, pointed it at the back of the employee's head and demanded to be taken to the safe. After getting money from the safe and register, he then took off.
District Attorney Dewey Hudson said over the state's objection, Judge Russell Lanier gave Goodman a $50,000 appeal bond. That allows the defendant to be released after posting that bond pending his appeal.
The convicton and sentencing took place Wednesday. According to the Duplin County jail, Goodman made bond that same day.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections website, 18-year-old Jamar Marquez Goodman was previously convicted in Wake County of possessing stolen goods, carrying concealed and drug charges.

Well, I think I understand the judge decision, being that he is so young this will give him the opportunity to think about what he did. Remember he had someone at gun point and decided not to take a life. For all we know this person thought this was a way to get money being that he was probably a victim of the system. Probably latino or african american. The system set them up to fail in school. Then begin to hang with thugs next thing you know they are thugs. Where was his parents 18 this didn't just start over night.

Great! This gives this punk more time to rob people and build up an account for his stretch in the pen. Let's hope he doesn't hurt someone in the process or even take flight to avoid the sentence. Hey... meybe he's rob the judge! That would be poetic justice!!
