An Ohio couple is behind bars after deputies say they led them on a chase in Carteret County.
Deputies say a man, a woman and two children were in the car that they tried to stop Sunday evening in Cape Carteret for speeding on Highway 24.
At one point in the chase, the car pulled over, only long enough for the woman and two kids, ages 12 and 14 years old, to get out of the car.
The chase ended when the car ran into a large electrical box in front of the BB&T.
Brian Groves faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, after deputies say he tried to strike a Cape Carteret patrol car during the chase. The Marysville, Ohio man is also charged with flee to elude arrest, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, resisting an officer, child abuse and numerous traffic violations.
Deputies also arrested the woman, Gretchen Groves with resisting an officer.
Authorities say the two were in a stolen car and both were wanted back in Ohio on several charges.
Both are in jail on $67,000 bond and are waiting a return to Ohio. The couple's children are in the process of being transported back to Ohio to family members.

The chase actually continued on foot after Groves hit the electrical box, taking out the traffic light at Old Hwy 58/NC 24 intersection. It didn't end until an off duty Cape Carteret officer ran Groves down on foot behind a house on Taylor Notion Rd. They didn't get out of the car until they had hit the electrical box, and the wife and 2 kids ran to divert Law Enforcement's attention from Groves.
