A woman who lawmen say bashed her husband over the head with an iron frying pan has been released from jail on bond.

Authorities say an argument over breakfast escalated with 85-year-old James Lewis raising his cane and ended with 71-year-old Rosie Lewis hitting her husband in the head several times at their Enfield home Friday morning.

Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a domestic situation, the suspect is put into jail under no bond. He said the suspect can go before a judge to make a plea for bond, which is what Lewis did. Her bond was $2500 unsecured.

Martin also told WITN News there had not been an arrest before on domestic charges.

A search on the North Carolina Department of Corrections did not show records for either the husband or wife.

A court appearance for Rosie Lewis is scheduled for August 26.

Previous Story:
A husband apparently didn't like his wife's cooking. Now she's arrested for hitting him over the head with a iron frying pan.

It happened Friday morning on Justice Branch Road in Enfield. Halifax County deputies say Rosie Lewis is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The 85-year-old husband, James, was sent to the hospital where he got 50 stitches.

Deputies say the husband told his wife he didn't like what she cooked for breakfast that morning. The suspect cooked him another meal, and deputies say while this was going on another argument happened. It escalated when the husband picked up his cane and drew it back in an attempt to strike his wife. That's when deputies say Rosie Lewis picked up the frying pan and hit her husband several times, knocking him to the floor.

James Lewis is doing okay. His 71-year-old wife is in jail under no bond and has an August 26th court date.
