A 29-year-old man is facing multiple rape charges after his arrest Wednesday.

Deputies say the girl was raped by Smith, who they say was a long-time family friend, several times over the past seven months.

Smith turned himself in to Scotland Neck police after learning there were warrants out for him. His bond had been set at $50,000.

Just as an FYI, the word "statutory" as a prefix to rape is a sneaky way of saying "technically" or "legally". It's almost always a way of saying the sex was consensual, but due to the age of one of the participants, it's classified as rape due to the law, otherwise it would just be rape or, more commonly, sexual assault. I'm not saying that makes it right, especially in this day and age when girls in their teens are going after older men, lie about their age, and look 5 years older than they really are. And it's usually the parents, not the minor, making the complaint, usually against the wishes of the minor. I'm just saying we don't have the whole story. And please don't misunderstand, I'm not unsympathetic to victims, I just see clever wording and realize what is and isn't being said. And I hate perverts like nobody's business, don't get me started on the pedophile resort WITN covered last month...

to BC>>>> "sure you are innocent until proven guilty but NOT when a child is involved...the accused should have to prove their innocence!"
